Summer Update

June 21, 2021

Dear Winter Springs High School Students and Parents:

Happy summer! Believe it or not, the 2021-2022 school year is right around the corner. In August, we will welcome around 2000 students back to Winter Springs High School. This summer has already been a busy one! We welcomed many of students to summer school in June and the students have been terrific completing requirements and some incoming 9th graders getting acquainted to Winter Springs High School. I would like to say a huge “Thank you” to our facilities crew that is working hard to prepare our campus for the 2021-22 school year. They have spent the summer deep cleaning our classrooms, waxing our floors, and pressure washing around campus! We can’t wait for the new school year to begin!

As always, my communication to parents and the community will be divided into sections.

IB Program:

Our IB Program (International Baccalaureate) has available seats!! Students who have been designated Pre-IB now start their junior year which is when the IB program really begins to be exciting! Are you interested in WSHS Athletics??

In order to participate in conditioning workouts or team tryouts you must complete this process:

SCPS ONLINE ATHLETIC PHYSICAL SUBMISSION SYSTEM

We wanted to let you all know about our new online Athletic Physical Clearance System. This new system will take a little getting used to but it will be much more efficient while eliminating any potential for kids to "slip through the cracks" that are not cleared to condition, practice or compete. It will also help cut foot down on traffic into the front office and save parents from driving back and forth to get all required paperwork and signatures submitted.

WSHS Football Information:

Summer workouts begin Monday June 7th. There will be 2 sessions, choose 1. M,T & Th 9 am-11 am or 5 pm-7pm. Current players and incoming Freshman please bring water, mask, sneakers and cleats. Contact Head Coach Matt Hesselbart, matt_hesselbart@scps.k12.fl.us with any questions.

Boys/Girls Cross Country Information:

Calling on all incoming 9th graders and current students’ 10th grade-12th grade! Our Boys/Girls Cross Country Team is looking for runners! Runners meet 6:30am at the Pit Monday-Friday throughout the summer! Come and be part of a great program and a GREAT team at WSHS! All appropriate paperwork must be turned in! Winter Springs Band of Gold and Colorguard Information:

We are incredibly proud of our students for their amazing accomplishments and tremendous amount of hard work they put in during an extraordinarily challenging year! We concluded the school year with two amazing concerts, our first ever band family picnic, and our annual icebreaker for new band members! We are excited to begin the next school year and look forward to performing our marching band show- Beatlemania! I know it will be tons of fun to work on and perform!

We will be sending information throughout the summer about band camp and other upcoming events. Here are some important events coming up:

July 19th  6:30pm  WSHS Auditorium Band Camp Registration Night 

There will be a mandatory meeting for parents and students at 6:30pm in the WSHS Auditorium. After a brief informational meeting, parents and students will complete the registration process for all band and colorguard students. During registration you will be able to complete all forms, meet the band director and band boosters, order band apparel, pay your band assessment fees and sign up for volunteer opportunities. July 26th-30th  8am-5pm  WSHS Band Camp

All Band and Colorguard students must attend band camp. During band camp, students review marching fundamentals and begin learning the half time show. Students who miss band camp are not guaranteed a spot in the opening of the show as there may not be a part written for them if they are not at camp. Details will be shared in email updates about what each student needs to bring for band camp. Questions or a request to be added to the Band of Gold email list may be sent to wsbandofgold@gmail.com. See you at band camp!
