  • Joel Saavedra has been selected to represent Florida at the Diversity Arts Workshop.  He was chosen as one of ten students from across the United States to participate in this symposium at the Kansas City Art Institute.   Students will discuss and create art base on cultural experiences and artistic talents.  The final created art will be on display in Kansas City, Missouri.   The workshop takes place March 1-3.  Congratulations Joel!

  • Volleyball Freshman Sets New School Record: Varsity Freshman Maria McLamb set a new school record for digs with 36 in our match against District rival Lake Howell. The previous record was actually held by her sister, Adrianna McLamb with 35.

  • Jeff Perez have been selected as the Seminole County Coach of the Year for the Seminole County Recreation Council’s High School Athletes & Hall of Fame Breakfast of Champions, sponsored by Bright House Sports Network
  • Rebecca Evans who placed in 2 events at the state track meet! She entered the state meet ranked 14th in the shot put.  She tossed her best throw of the year to earn a spot on the awards podium 8th place in the state. She then later in the day tossed her best throw ever in the discus and climbed the awards poduium again to have a 3rd place medal hung around her neck

  • Five of our students qualified for the National Debate Tournament in Baltimore, MD.  Under the leadership of Mr. Kupscznk, these dedicated students have competed all year at various tournaments to reach this crowning achievement.  We are VERY PROUD to have so many of our students qualify for nationals!
  • JROTC keeps bringing in the awards as well.  Our female armed exhibition platoon won first place in state competition. The armed exhibition squad placed fifth and one student placed third in the individual armed exhibition.
  • Two WSHS students recently competed in the Florida Stock Market Challenge sponsored by State Farm Insurance.  Students were given a “virtual sum” of money and they had six weeks to invest it in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.  Alex McCalla placed 8th in the state and Bakari Harris placed 10th in the state.
  • Twenty five Latin students recently competed in the state Latin Forum.  The team, under the leadership of Mr. Robie, placed 5th in Olympics, 7th in Academics, and 10th overall in the state.
  • Madison Warncke, our baton twirler for the Band of Gold recently competed in the state baton twirling championship.  With over 100 twirlers competing Madison won first place!

  • Boy's Soccer team wins District Title
  • Congratulations to Adam Efland and his Winter Springs Culinary Team as they took 2nd place at the Regional Pro Start Culinary Competition Friday. The team consists of Alexander (Xander) Franke, Katie Rutigliano, Jacob Ferro and Miro Blagojevic. They competed in the Gourmet Meal category finishing second. They now prepare for the state wide competition February 25th at the Orange County Convention Center.

2010-11 Highlights

  • Girls soccer won the Regional Championship, and went on to the Class 6A Final Four, the first appearance by a Winter Springs soccer team.
  • A Winter Springs senior, Christopher Duncan-Lewis, recently represented Seminole County and the state of Florida at the International Science and Engineering Fair held in Los Angeles, CA.  Christopher was competing against students from 65 different countries, regions, and territories.  His project, "The Effects of Zinc Gluconate and Two Other Divalent Cationic Compounds on Olfactory Function" placed second in international competition!

  • Orlando Chapter’s Society for Technical Communication sponsors a Technical Writing contest.  On Tuesday, April 19, six of the top seven awards were given to Winter Springs students. Deanna Ferrante, Carly Howard, Ninah Diaz, Chandler Blount, John Ferrante, and Katie Cournoyer received awards.
  • Winter Springs, FL-Matthew Gerken, 18, of Winter Springs, FL has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

    The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was presented by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama. Matthew Gerken participated in the Spirit of Community program this year as a representative of the Environmental study center in Longwood, FL, where he is a volunteer.
  • Debate team attended the National Forensic League national qualifying tournament in Jupiter, Florida. Two students qualified for nationals: Joe Giacona in Senatorial Student Congress and Will Gonzalez in Representative Student Congress.

Grayson Malchow had a photo accepted to the Leu Gardens, Florida Oaisis Show and is published in the book that goes with the show.
  • Girls’ soccer coach, Kurt Oettl, was named the 2010 NSCAA Large Public School Secondary Schools Girls Coach of the Year. The National Soccer Coaches Association chose Oettl as the coach of the year for Florida and he is in the running for the honor of being named National coach of the Year.
  • Boy's Cross Country of Timothy Nguyen, Matthew Streich, Nathan Dekrey, Stefan Yocom, Cornelius Wesley, Logan Walker and Dan Marinelli claimed the District Title in Gainesville on Saturday, Nov 6, 2010.
  • Elizabeth Birle, Andrea Savino, Kelsey Deese and Kelly Mountcastle brake the 8 year old 200 Medley Relay record in a time of 1:56.51

2009-10 Highlights

  • Kiersten Coffman was selected as softball player of the year, she's only a sophomore.
  • Luis Jacobo was chosen as basketball player of the year--he's heading to Stetson next year on a full BB scholarship
  • Shelby Pursley earned Seminole County volleyball player of the year--she's heading to LSU on a full scholarship.
  • Aubrey Chase was selected as the scholar athlete of the year. He will be taking his 4.7 GPA to the Ivy League (Penn) next year where he will be studying engineering. Aubrey was a member of our football and lacrosse teams.
  • Schowonda Williams received a standing ovation as she was inducted into the 2010 Seminole County Sports Hall of Fame.
    For those who don't know, Schowonda was an incredible athlete. She graduated from Lyman HS where she was a state champion in the hurdles--in fact, she still holds the FHSAA state record in the 400 meter hurdles. Schowonda then graduated from LSU where she was a national champion. Then, she won the Olympic trials and became a member of the US Olympic team. Schowonda competed in the Seoul Olympics in 1988.

    National Debate Tournament.
  • Girl's Fastpitch Team qualifies for Final Four
  • Congratulations to Coach Efland! He has been chosen to coach Florida's national lacrosse team in the national tournament on Memorial Day.
  • Culinary Team DJ Murphy , Dakota Kendall along with Chef Jay Judy participated in the Annual Shrimp Cook-off. This is the 5th year WSHS has participated & the 4th time the Bears have placed & won the people choice award !

  • Lady Bears Win Regional Championship, The Lady Bears girls lacrosse team won their 2nd straight Regional Championship defeating Ponte Vedra High School 19-13 Friday night. It is their third Regional Title in four years.

  • Spenser Mitchell was selected MVP at a senior showcase basketball game.
  • Girls soccer senior Vanessa Aponte, has recently been competing for the Colombian Under-20 Women's National team, as they attempted to qualify for the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup.  These world championships for the Under 20 age group, will be held in Germany this summer.  Last week, Vanessa scored the winning goal against Bolivia, which was hailed throughout Colombia.  Yesterday the team defeated Paraguay, which put them in the final against Brazil.  By virtue of getting to the final (this Wednesday) the team qualifies for this summer's World Cup!  Congratulations to Vanessa on a great accomplishment, and being the first Winter Springs soccer player to compete on the world stage!

  • Girls Soccer team defeats Oviedo 2-1 to advance to the Regional Finals
  • Debate Team competed in a state tournament at Lake Mary Prep School last weekend and started off the new semester by winning three first place trophies.
    William Gonzalez won first place in Student Congress Debate. Dominique Maisonave won first place in novice Dramatic Performance AND first place in varsity Dramatic Performance. This was only her second tournament!
  • This past weekend, WSHS Thespian Troupe 5777  joined 1400 students from high schools in Orange and Seminole county to compete at the District V Thespian Competition. We received a number of Superior AND Excellent Ratings in Individual Acting, Technical,  & Musical events. The highlight of the competition was the performance of our one act The Laramie Project. We received straight Superiors in performance/tech and many wonderful, lovely compliments about the play.  Michelle Arok was selected to the All Star One Act Cast .

  • Senior Vanessa Aponte was named to the NSCAA All Region (South) Team. This honors the best high school girls players in the southern United States.
  • Brianna Barry, a 6-3 middle blocker for Florida State University, is a senior from Winter Springs, Fla. Barry, who was FSU's first-ever ACC Player of the Year in 2009, helped the Seminoles to a historic 31-3 season, including the program's first-ever outright ACC title. Barry, who stood second nationally in hitting percentage, is picking up her first
    AVCA All-America nod.

  • The All Americans 2009 - 2010 - The WSHS Hunnybear Dance Team and Director Rebekah Krausman attended UDA Camp at the University of Central Florida. Six team members competed and were selected for the highest individual recognition as a UDA All American. The six dancers from left to right are Jenny Knipe, Kelsey Ripple, Olivia Flail, Cristen Mould, Lori Chambers and Kristin Cox. On November 21, 2009. Kristin Cox and Cristen Mould will travel to New York City to represent WSHS and the Hunnybear Dance Team at the 83rd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

2008-09 Highlights

  • FHSAA has announced the Academic Team Championship winners for the Spring sports and I am happy to say that Winter Springs took 1st place in Baseball and 1st place in boys and girls Waterpolo.  This is a huge accomplishment because it is measured state wide.  WSHS had the highest unweighted team GPA in the state for baseball and b/g waterpolo.  If you are interested as to all of the other spring sports and where they ranked please check out the FHSAA website at www.fhsaa.org and click on Academic Team Champion under headlines.  This makes 5 team championships this year with boys and girls swimming taking 1st place in the fall sports.  Congratulations!
  • After four years of hard work and much success, Robert Colonel has won the shinning crown of debate by becoming the National Forensic League National Student Congress Senate Champion. 3500 students from around the nation converged on Birmingham, Alabama to determine the champion in ten different speech and debate categories.
  • Kaley Wilburn won the Orlando Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication high school competition. This automatically qualified her for entry in the international competition for the Society for Technical Communication where she also won the Distinguished award.
  • Congratulations to Ted Jones! Ted has been named as the 3rd Athletic Director in WSHS History. He succeeds Kenne Brown who is leaving to take the Athletic Director position at Orangewood Christian School.
  • The Debate team had an outstanding national tournament in Albany NY. Malik Priest advanced to the quarter final round in Original Oratory. This was the first time our team has advanced this far in the individual events. Robert Colonel also advanced to the final round in student congress. Good Luck to both Robert and Malik as they compete in the final Nationals in Birmingham Alabama in June.
  • Harold W. Pote Behind Every Graduate Award for Excellence in Secondary Teaching - The award was given by Drexel University to Scott Hamsik. It is awarded annually to 4 secondary teachers from around the country and was initiated in 2006. Scott will be flown to Philadelphia (with a guest), honored at a dinner and take part in Drexel's commencement exercise. Scott and his school each receive $2000.00. The teachers are nominated by graduating seniors at Drexel who write an essay about the nominee. Scott was nominated (and written about) by Jenni Izzo, a 2005 graduate of WSHS who was a student in Scott's photo classes for three years.
  • Mark Huaman was named Coach of the Year for Fast Pitch Softball from the Seminole Athletic Conference
  • Congratulating Ross Bohlken and the entire Swim Team for their Academic Team Champion Award. This was awarded to WSHS Swim Team for the highest GPA in the State of Florida.
  • The JROTC drill team returned from the National High School Drill Team Championships earned the overall 3d Runner Up ranking for all JROTC teams in the United States. The Bears’ drill team garnered two first place finishes, a third place ranking, and several fifth through tenth place rankings. The female Bears were crowned National Champions in Armed Squad Exhibition, displaying an awesome precision as well as a show of strength and energy in their championship routine. In Armed Dual Exhibition, Brittany Argentine and Kristine Pons dominated the competition, crushing the nearest challenge by nearly 100 points in a meticulously choreographed performance that combined precision, strength, showmanship, and difficulty into a routine that resulted in judge’s comments like “best dual all day with the most difficult rifle toss exchange witnessed in the competition” and a second judge stating “glad to see someone step up to the plate and present one of the most challenging drills seen this year at the Nationals.”  In the knockout drills, Amby Delacruz outlasted approximately 400 other cadets to place 5th in the armed knockout and Will Getz captured 2d in the unarmed knockout.

  • Symphonic Band earned straight superior ratings at the State Music Performance Assessment.  The accomplishment also earned the band program the Otto J. Kraushaar Award for superior ratings all year

  • Robert Colonel won the State Championship in Student Congress. This is the debate team’s first ever state championship! Taylor Grimes won fifth place in Humorous Interpretation. And Malik Priest made the semi final round in Original Oratory.
  • Senior Ben Nelson has received his official appointment and will be attending the United States Naval Academy in the fall. Ben has run cross-country and is currently playing baseball for WSHS. He will be playing baseball for the Midshipmen as a pitcher. The Naval Academy is a member of the NCAA Division I in baseball. Winter Springs High School would like to congratulate Ben on the fantastic accomplishment.
  • Harvard National Debate Tournament. Among thousands of students from hundreds of schools around the nation, Winter Springs shined. Robert Colonel won second place in Student Congress. Malik Priest advanced to the semifinal round of Original Oratory. Joe Giacona made the semifinal round of student congress and Taylor Grimes was in the octofinal round for Humorous Interpretation.
  • Our Waiters Relay team who recently placed 1st in the State Prostart Culinary Competition. WSHS also placed 3rd in the Overall competition. The Gourmet Meal Team- Jeff Patton, Joey Williams, Dillon Alspaini and Jahmal Dailey and Edible Centerpiece-Leah Tapley
  • Wrestling Team wins District Meet
  • The debate team competed at the state qualifying tournament in Feb 09. Taylor Grimes qualified in both Dramatic and Humorous interpretation. Robert Colonel and Peter D’Amore qualified in Student Congress. Malik Priest and Alex Godinho qualified in Original Oratory. William Gonzalez was also first alternate in Student Congress.
  • Winter Springs High School Football team received a Good Neighbor Grant for $1000.00 thanks to Cory Alexander and Kurt Neidlinger who volunteered 40 hours each of community service to the football program.
  • Melissa Gregory is presented with a Silver Congressional Medal at Winter Springs High School on February 3, 2009. The Congressional Award program challenges participants to establish and achieve goals in four areas; physical fitness, community service, personal development and exploration.

  • The Boys and Girls Cross Country team work together to bring home the Seminole Athletic Conference (SAC) Championship. Boys team was lead by individual champ Nathan Duby, 2nd place finisher Richie Kamaka, 5th place finisher Brian Dekrey and 7th place finisher Brett Hinds. The girls team was lead by 2nd place finisher Kristen Yocom, 8th place finisher Arielle Loupos and 10th place finisher Elizabeth Adams.

2007-08 Highlights

  • As many of you know, Newsweek Magazine ranks high schools based on a formula that includes AP scores and IB scores. The new rankings have just come out and for the 4th year in a row WSHS ranks very highly. They rated us 326th out of more than 26,000 high schools in the U.S. This places us in the top 1% of all schools in the U.S.

  • Our computer animation and gaming program won the Alion 2007 Science Education Award for the use of technology in the classroom. The representatives from Alion, which is located in Research Park, presented the $2500 check to Dr. B and Dr. Gaught's class.

In addition Emily Kirby is first alternate in Original Oratory and Alex Godinho was 1st alternate in Declamation.

  • Winter Springs High School Ranked in the Top 1% Nationally! For the third time, NEWSWEEK Magazine ranked the nation’s 27,468 high schools according to the Challenge Index. This year, ALL 8 of the Seminole County 4-year public high schools are ranked in the top 3% of the nation. (Hagerty HS and Quest Academy do not have seniors.) This is the second straight year that Seminole County Public Schools ranked in the top 3%!

  • Robert Colonel placed 6th in Student Congress at the Florida Varsity State Debate Tournament (our first student to place at state). Kenneth Colonel was a finalist in Student Congress. Coach Wells was recognized as the Regional Coach of the year.
  • The JROTC Bear Drill team returned from Lakeland last week crowned the overall State Champion drill team. The male team garnered three event firsts, plus one each second, fourth, fifth and sixth places. The Golden Bears female team collected a first, second, third, fifth and three sixth place positions. Chris Martinez capped the day with a seventh place finish in the armed knockout drill. When all was over, the Bears are again the best Army Drill Team in Florida for the third straight year – and the State Champs for six of the past seven years. Congratulations Bears.

  • Congratulations to the boy's 4x800 relay team and their spectacular performance at the Florida High School Association Track and Field Final. The team consisted of Brett Hinds, Richard Borger, Tommy Goodman, and Nathan Duby finished seventh. Nathan Duby came back only hours later in the prestigious 800 meter final and ran a flashing race to finish second and only a few meters away from victory. He shattered his previous personal best as he set a new school record of 1:54.50
  • The Winter Springs High School Army JROTC Drill team returned from the National High School Drill Team Championships Monday, 7 May 2007, with multiple event trophies and the National fourth runner up title. During the exhausting two-day drill meet featuring the top 150 schools in the Nation, the team earned top 10 places in every event. Two cadets earned individual recognitions among nearly participating 4600 cadets. Judges rated Christine Pons the number two individual rifle exhibitionist in the United States and in the Armed Knockout Drill Angelina Ajdukovic earned the number 21 slot. The Winter Springs cadets have concluded this very successful season with multiple drill victories throughout the school year including the Army State Championship as well as this fourth runner up in the National Drill Championships.

Special recognition goes to David Margolies for placing in the top ten for Administrative Support Concepts.   • Congratulations to Andrew First, Chris Lako and Daniel Mongiove who competed in the Business Professionals of America National competition held at the Swan & Dolphin hotel in Orlando, FL from May 10 -13. Andrew First placed 1st place in the Java Programming event and was one of the top ten finalists in the Information Technology Concepts event.
  • Casey Hodges was also selected as an All American in Boys Lacrosse for the state of Florida. Which is an extremely high honor.
  • Men's 4 x 800 relay team of Johnny Prawl, A.J. Walker, Nathan Duby, and Tommy Goodman finished 2nd in the state meet.
  • Yvonne George continued to demonstrate that she is not only one of the best jumpers in the county, but one of the best in the state. Yvonne finished 5th in the long jump with a leap of 17’10 inch. She then leaped 37’0 earning recognition as the 3 rd best triple jumper in the state.
  • The first set of FCAT scores have arrived. We received the results of the FCAT Writes test on Thursday, April 20th GOOD NEWS for WSHS!!! We had a combined average score of 4.2 on a 6 point scale. This is up from last year (4.0) and ties the mark for the highest scores in school history. The state average was 3.9 and the district average was 4.0. In fact, 37 of our 10th grade students received a perfect score on the exam. They will receive a free parking decal for next year.
  • WSHS junior Brandon Hatchett finished 5th in the 152 lb. weight class at the NHSCA Junior National Wrestling Championships this past week in Pittsburgh. The 5th place finish earned him designation as an "All-American" with the NHSCA and puts him on the map nationally as a rising senior.
  • Congratulations to members of the AP Computer Science Programming team, Andrew First, Jeremy Hsu, and Shawn Sirigampola, for their first place finish at a statewide programming competition this past weekend at the University of Florida.
  • Congratulations to all the Business Professionals of America members who competed in the Business Professionals of America State Conference on Feb. 4-6 in Orlando, Florida.   • The Boys Cross Country team ran away with the team title at Thursday's, Oct 7th Seminole Athletic Conference Championships. They had 4 runners in the top 5 and were led by Kyle Jones who finished 1st in a time of 16:33.

  • JROTC Drill Team - Winter Springs Army JROTC Drill Team battled it out at the Regional Drill Meet on Saturday held at Lyman High school. The Bears finished out with a first place overall trophy, and have already began to practice for the state meet on March 12th. Congratulations bears and good luck at states.
  • Ashley Cleaver is the State Champion girls weightlifter at the 139lbs class. The team placed 4th. Amy Hartman was the State Runner-Up
  • Congratulations to the Winter Springs girls soccer team, who placed 6 players on the Seminole Athletic Conference’s “All-Conference” teams. Players were voted on by coaches from the 7 member schools, for First, Second and Honorable Mention teams. Being selected the “All-Conference First Team” were junior Kristin Voirin and junior Yvonne George. Selected to the “All-Conference Second Team” were senior Lauren Affolter, and junior Michelle Ernest. And named to the “All-Conference Honorable Mention Team” were sophomore Erin Jacobs, and freshman Chrissy Scarlata. Congratulations to these fine players for being recognized by their opponents, for their hard work and excellent play.
  • The WSHS Wrestling Team finished fourth out of 29 teams in the 3A-1 Region Championships this past weekend at Lyman High School. With five individuals placing in the top 4 of their respective weight classes, WSHS will be well- represented at the State Championships in Lakeland February 24-27. Dwayne Tolleson (130) and Brandon Hatchett (135) each won individual Region Titles, while Daniel Rivera (160) and Anthony Brunshtein (275) finished 2nd. Cameron Nereim (140) picked up the final state birth for the Bears with his 3rd place finish.
  • Daniel Rivera became the third Winter Springs High School Wrestler to garner All-American honors by finishing in 5th place (69 kg/152 lbs)at the USA Wrestling/FILA Cadet National Wrestling Championships.
  • Can you say "District Champs"? In overtime, the Men's Basketball team defeated the Oviedo Lions on Saturday night, Feb. 19th in the Winter Springs High School Gym. This is the first time the school's short history that the Men's Team has been District Champs.
  • The Varsity Wrestling Team completed an outstanding State Tournament this past weekend in Lakeland, finishing 4th overall in the team standings. Sophomore Brandon Hatchett captured the 135 lb. individual state championship, becoming the second state champion in school history. Dwayne Tolleson also had an excellent tournament, finishing second in the 130 lb. weight class in a hotly contested 7-6 match. Anthony Brunshtein finished 4th in the 275 lb. weight class, and Daniel Rivera rounded out the state place winning performance with a 5th place showing in the 160 lb. weight class. Cameron Nereim also competed this past weekend, but fell short of placing. The four state place winners equal a team record with the 2002 team that finished 2nd overall. The coaching staff is extremely proud of their performance and wishes to thank and congratulate all the wrestlers on an outstanding season!
  • Ben Finley, a sophomore chemistry honors student at Winter Springs High School, was selected to participate in the 2005 NASA Summer High School Apprenticeship Research Program.
  • The team of Andrew Jensen and Lacey Lowers won the Novice State Public Forum
    Debate competition.
  • Winter Springs High School dominated the STC Science and Technical Writing Competition for the last five years. Award Winners included the following students: Andrew First, Andrew Lai, Jeremy Hsu, Travis Pillow, Jackie Boehme, Nicole de Paz, Jason Kwong, Davis Tiblier. Two students, Andrew First and Andrew Lai moved on to the international competition and won First and Third Place.
  • Congratulations to members of the AP Computer Science programming team! Eric First Andrew First, and Jeremy Shu for their 1st place finish at a State-wide programming competition held Friday at UCF.
  • Congratulations to the following water polo athletes who made the 2005 all Seminole County Water Polo Team. Boys First Team: George Baker and Ross Bohlken. Girls First Team: Kayla Corkery and Ali Greene. Boy's Second was Matt Kovacik, Girls was Emily Simpson. Boys Honorable Mention: Corey Atkins and Tommy Lechner. Girls Honorable Mention: Caroline Ingoglia and Jessica Warrner.
  • The following Girl's Lacrosse team members received recognition this year:

    Second Team All Conference: Hayley Efland
    Academic All Americans: Erin Ramsey, Brittany Tran, Brittany Bennie, Heather Barry, Jen Harvey, Jenna Basham, Lizzi Muller, Lindsey London, and Allison Adolphe.
    Katy Wick, Hayley Efland and Caitlin O'Rourke made the Florida All Star Team which will be traveling to Maryland in June to compete in the Cup of Nations Tournament, a high school tournament in conjunction with the Women's World Cup.

  • Yearbook Awarded: First Place Group Theme Portfolio by Jostens Publishing; Silver Medallist by Columbia Scholastic Press Association; First Place Award by American Scholastic Press Association; Outstanding Table of Contents Design Award by American Scholastic Press Association; Awarded First Class with One Mark of Distinction by National Scholastic Press Association; First Place Award from Florida Scholastic Press Association; and an Excellent from Southern Interscholastic Press Association.
  • Dale Phillips, was named Seminole County Assistant Principal of the year.
  • Dr. Michael R. Blasewitz will be the new principal at WSHS. He comes to us from Edgewater High School in Orange County, Florida. The students, faculty, staff, and community would like to welcome him to BEAR COUNTRY.
  • Allison Nowak's wood sculpture entitled, "Spike" won first place in the "Taste of Oviedo" art show over the weekend. Allison received two honors for this sculpture receiving both the school award and first place overall award.
  • Winter Springs High School proudly announces that its Safe School Ambassadors Program, through SCPS, received national attention this morning at 8:10 AM on the Today Show with Katie Couric.
  • Lois Arp named Teacher of the Year
  • Amy Hartman won her second state weightlifting title with a bench press of 215 lbs. and a clean/jerk of 175 lbs. for a total of 390 pounds. Her total was 55 pounds more than the second-place finisher.

  • Teachers Kris Cole, Jack Dearing, Trent Daniel, Jim Marshall and Brian Urichko were awarded a Top Program Award at Disney's Magic Kingdom on Saturday, Dec 13th. Congratulations to these teachers for their "Going Batty" Project.
  • Two new National Board Certified Teachers: Mark Huaman and Martha Thomas. Mark and Martha join these elite ranks along with Maureen Warner, Trent Daniel and Donna Whelchel.
  • Carolyn Guzman has been chosen as one of 30 finalists for the NASA Astronaut program. She has a B.S. degree in Mathematics Education and teaches Pre-calculus, AP Calculus AB, BC.
  • Cadets receive awards on 4 October from Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings after patriotic ceremony presentation.
  • Students Qualify for Debate nationals:
    • CFL Nationals in May in Boston: Jenna is going in Extemporaneous Speaking, Luke in Student Congress and Natasha in Original Oratory. (CFL is the top six in the region for each event.)
    • For NFL Nationals in June in Salt Lake City. Luke is going in Extemporaneous Speaking. (NFL is the top 2 in the region for each event.)
  • Scholarships:
    • Kelsey Combes to play volleyball at Florida Southern.
    • Lauren Starcher to play fast pitch softball at Rollins College.
