Approved transfer students are required to enroll at the approved school by the tenth day of the 2009-2010 school year. Highlighted News ItemsGirls SoccerGirls soccer senior Vanessa Aponte, has recently been competing for the Colombian Under-20 Womens's National team, as they attempted to qualify for the FIFA Under-20 Wormen's World Cup. These world championships for the Under 20 age group, will be held in Germany this summer. Last week, Vanessa scored the winning goal against Bolivia, which was hailed throughout Colombia. Yesterday the team defeated Paraguay, which put them in the final against Brazil. By virtue of getting to the final (this Wednesday) the team qualifies for this summer's World Cup! Congratulations to Vanessa on a great accomplishment, and being the first Winter Springs soccer player to compete on the world stage! ANNOUNCEMENTSCharity Flag Football Game2nd annual charity flag football game Winter Springs Police vs. Oviedo Police at WSHS Football stadium on March 20, 2010. Gates open at 3pm and the games begins at 5pm. Student admission With student ID $1.00, and for non-students admission will be $5.00. There will also be food, raffles, and fun activities, including a rock climbing wall. The halftime show features wshs drum line. All proceeds will benefit kid's house of seminole. SWAT and SADDStudents Working Against Tobacco and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SWAT and SADD) club will meet Monday, 3/22/10 right after school. Plans for Prom Promise and Kick Butts Day will be discussed. New members are always welcomed. SeniorsAre you still undecided as to what college you will be attending after high school? Seminole State College will be hosting their GO-HIGHER, GET ACCEPTED program on Thursday, April 1st from 8am-12pm here on our campus. In the GO-HIGHER, GET ACCEPTED program you will have the opportunity to meet with Seminole State advisor/recruiter, a financial aid specialist and even a career specialist. There will also be someone available to help you complete the college application. This program is perfect for the student who hasn't signed up for college yet. It is also perfect for a student who isn't quite sure if college is right for him/her. Don't delay because this program is limited for the first 30 seniors that sign up in the guidance office. Pi Week ResultsIf you won one of the pie-eating contests during both 1st and 2nd lunch last Friday or if you participated in Pi Week by submitting pies, T-shirts, poems, and others, please stop by room 5-105 this week to pick up your awards. InteractMembers there will be a meeting Thursday, 3/18/10, right after school in Mrs. Brigg's room. Remember to bring your $10 for Relay! Summer SchoolStudents: Summer School Applications will be available in the Guidance office Wednesday, 03/17/10. Summer School session 1 begins June 14 and ends July 1. Session 2 begins July 6 and ends July 22. Address summer school questions to Gisela Cotto. Best BuddiesThis Thursday Best Buddies is showing the movie Up in the auditorium. The movie will start at 6:30 and is completely free. We will be giving away free Best Buddies items, and drinks and baked goods will be sold to enjoy during the movie. Summer Teen Volunteer ProgramStudents 15-18 years old and maintain a B average are invited to join the Summer Teen Volunteer Program at the Arnold Palmer Medical Center. See Ms. Buzanowski in the guidance office for application and requirements. SENIORS: Remember to check deadline dates for those scholarships and now's the time to file for FAFSA! SeniorsScholarships continue to come in each week, so make sure you check Guidance College Career Room Bins. You may also access this information here. Make certain to check those due dates! Drop off any acceptance letters and don't forget if you receive scholarships to let us know. Senior CelebrationsSenior Celebrations includes three big events that will be held for the graduating class of 2010. The Senior Picnic will be held in April during the school day and is an outdoor fun event that includes lunch and outdoor activities. The Senior Breakfast will be held in May and allows the students to gather for breakfast and to watch the entire senior video together. Project Graduation is an event that was initiated by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and is organized by parents to provide seniors (and guests) a safe, supervised, alcohol-free and drug-free party held on graduation night. The parent group, called the Senior Celebrations Committee,has three traditional fund raisers held throughout the year to finance these events. These are the Valentine's Bears school delivery in February, and the Garage Sale in March. Please support your seniors by supporting these fundraiser's! Watch for more details on the web site and in the newsletter and please begin saving any items that you would like to donate to the garage sale! Debt ListThe debt list has been posted on the wall outside Bookkeeping. It includes all debts prior to this year. Please check it soon to clear any questions about last year's debts. All debts must be paid or cleared before graduation. College and Career RoomThe College/Career Room is now open for students to visit. It's open every morning at 7:00 and during lunches. While you're there make sure to check all new scholarships and the list of colleges scheduled to visit. New Student TransferNew student transfer options for the 2010-2011 school year are available on the Seminole County Public Schools Choices web site at www.seminoleschoolchoices.com. Transfer requests for 2010-2011 are due April 1, 2010. If the number of transfer requests exceeds the maximum number permitted during any school year, a random selection process will be used to select approved capacity transfer students. Transfer requests received by April1 will be included in the random selection process. Capacity and diversity incentive transfer requests may be submitted throughout the school year for review on a case-by-case basis pending available capacity.
