The Media Staff cheerfully welcomes students, staff, and parents to the WSHS Media Center. All staff members are ready to help with information needs and information literacy skills.

 Technology

There have been several recent changes/upgrades to the Media Center in the past years. Twenty-four computers, all equipped with Windows XP operating systems, have been installed. All machines have a direct connection to the school's Tier 1 server, which provides Internet access to students. Printing is available through the networked laser printer.
Horizon, the new circulation/online catalog system, is now available from any computer that has Internet access, at school or at home.
Various digital and video cameras, document cameras, audience response systems, laptop computers, video projectors, VCRs, DVD players, laserdisc players, and audio cassette recorders are available for teacher checkout.

ProQuest

SIRS contains articles, timelines and photos from a wide variety of newspapers and magazines. The specific focus of SIRS is social issues.

EBSCOHost consists of thousands of current and archived newspaper and magazine articles, maps, photographs and primary documents.

Florida Electronic Library contains select resources provided by the Florida Public Library System, such as Florida Memory Project, popular magazines and journals and Ask a Librarian.  It also includes Gale CENGAGE Learning databases with thousands of magazine and newspaper articles.

Grolier Online – Lands and Peoples from Grolier Online provides information concerning cultures, peoples and current events.

The CultureGrams site is a cultural reference product for middle and high schools.

The TeachingBooks site is a book and author website for K-12.

World Book Online provides encyclopedia access for students, teachers and administrators.

Salem History Reference provides access to district owned secondary print reference materials.  This includes portions of titles from Great Events from History, Great Lives from History and Decades in America collections.

E-books which have been purchased for use by Winter Springs High School students and staff are available on a variety of non-fiction topics.  These are available through this website.


Login information and passwords are available in the media center.  All electronic sources are available to students and staff, either on campus or from any other computer with Internet access.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday - 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday - 6:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Books

The media center maintains a library of over 20,000 books available for student use. In addition to an extensive Reference section, nonfiction, novels, biographies, short stories, and a comprehensive career area complete the collection.

 Periodicals

Subscriptions to magazines, the Orlando Sentinel, the Sanford Herald, and the Seminole Chronicle provide a wide variety of topical and timely reading materials.
