2011 Inductees

Congratulations to the 2011 Inductees into the
WSHS Athletic Hall of Fame!

The class consists of 5 new members

Katy Wick

Katy Wick

Katy was a four time 1st team All Conference player and two time All American and Academic All American during her playing days on the lacrosse team here at Winter Springs. Katy helped lead the Lady Bears to a District title and Final Four appearance in 2007.

She earned a scholarship to Penn State University where she played all four years; anchoring the defense for the Nittany Lions nationally ranked lacrosse program her senior year.

Academically, Katy was recognized numerous times including the John W. Oswald Leadership Award and the Susan Delaney-Scheetz Senior Scholar Athlete Award for having the highest overall GPA in the Big 10 Conference. She was a member of the Athletic Leadership Directors Institute and Student Athletic Advisory Board. She also served as the Penn State athletic representative at Big Ten and NCAA meetings.

Kelly Cruz

Kelly Cruz

During her softball playing days here at WSHS, Kelly was All-Conference, All-County and All-State for 3 consecutive years. In 2002, she was the Seminole County player of the year.

Kelly went on to play softball at Rollins College where she still holds some records and sits in the top 10 for hits, runs scored, RBI’s, and stolen bases. While at Rollins, Kelly earned All-Conference honors all 4 years and was selected an All-Region player her junior and senior seasons. Kelly is currently the Head Softball Coach at Lyman High School.

Brianna Barry

Brianna Barry

Brianna is unable to attend because she is currently in Switzerland playing professional volleyball. Accepting on her behalf is her mother, Betty Ann Barry.

Brianna had a tremendous high school career leading the Lady Bears volleyball team to 3 straight conference and district championships. In 2003, Brianna was named 1st team All-State after the Lady Bears won a regional championship and finished the season as state runner up.

Brianna’s talent earned her a scholarship to Florida State University. 2009 turned out to be an incredible year for the 6’3” senior. Brianna was named ACC scholar athlete and player of the year. She was chosen 2nd team All-American after leading the Seminoles to the ACC Championship and a birth in the Elite 8.

Brianna just started her 2nd professional season playing volleyball for Franches Montagnes in Switzerland.

Tony Caldwell

Tony Caldwell

Tony was a 2 sport standout here at WSHS and was named Male Athlete of the year his senior year. In football, he was a 3 year starter. His senior year, Tony led the team in tackles and scored 12 touchdowns which earned him All-Conference, All-County, and he was chosen 1st team defensive back by the Orlando Sentinel.
In baseball, Tony was the leader for the 2007 team that was ranked in the top 10 nationally. He led the team to a 25-2 record winning conference and district championships. Tony was 1st team All-Conference, 2nd team All-State and the Seminole County Player of the year.
Tony accepted a scholarship to Auburn University where he earned 4 varsity letters as a catcher. His senior year, he earned All SEC honors and was a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award. He led the SEC in several categories and holds the all time record for throwing out runners (59).
In June, Tony was drafted by the Florida Marlins. He had a very successful 1st season with the Jupiter Marlins, leading the team in batting average and on base percentage.
Tony is currently finishing his degree at Auburn and preparing for Spring Training.

Brett Hodges

Brett Hodges

Brett was also a 2 sport standout here at WSHS.  He was chosen Male Athlete of the year in 2005. In basketball, Brett was a 4 year starter for the Bears and is the school’s all time leading scorer. He earned All-Conference honors 3 times and was named All-State in 2005 after leading the Bears to the schools 1st ever district championship.  In football, Brett was an All-Conference 2 year starting quarterback and still holds 5 school records. He led the Bears to 2 conference championships and the schools 1st ever playoff victory defeating the #2 ranked team in the nation (Palm Bay). Brett was named Two Sport All-American by Student Sports Magazine and was the Sprint Scholar Athlete.

Brett accepted a full football scholarship to Wake Forest University where he played quarterback for the Demon Deacons from 2005-2008.  Brett then transferred to the University of Central Florida in 2009 where he was chosen team MVP, All-Conference USA and set 6 school records leading the Knights to the team’s 1st ever victory over a nationally ranked opponent (#12 Houston).
