Student Services Update

WSHS Community:
Welcome back to the 2025 - 2026 school year!
We ask that you read the entire email from beginning to end.
Skyward will go LIVE in SKYWARD Today, August 1st for you to view your child’s schedule, however, schedules are still subject to change. Counselors are working on cleaning up scheduling conflicts, balancing classes, and ensuring students are scheduled in graduation required courses, and other scheduling priorities.
Please do not send emails requesting a schedule change or modified schedule change. Students will have the opportunity to do so as directed later in this email.
School Counselors Availability
Counselors will be on campus and ready to assist WSHS families, on the following days:
In-Person Walk-in Appointments:
On Wednesday, August 6th and Thursday, August 7th, counselors will have walk-in hours available during the hours listed below for brief questions:
Mrs. McBryde, Mrs. Martorell, Ms. Spence and Mrs. Whyde: 8:00 am-11:00 am
Mrs. Durand: 10:00 am -12:30 pm
Please be as patient as possible. This is the busiest time of the year for our counselors!
For the 2025-2026 School year: Winter Springs High School counselors will be assigned to the following students (Subject to change based on total student enrollment prior to first day of school):
Ms. Spence: All students with IEPs
Mrs. Martorell: All students in the IB or PreIB program & Last names: Merca- Smith
Ms. Whyde: Last names: A - Fishe
Mrs. McBryde: Last names: Flat-Mendo
Mrs. Kemetz: Will be assigned a group of Mrs. Martorell’s students from Merca-Smith before the start of the school year
Mrs. Durand: Last names: Sniv - Z and ESOL students
Mrs. Durand is Available only on Monday & Friday 8:30 am-1:45 pm, Tuesday & Thursday 8:30 am-2:30 pm and Wednesday 10 am-2:30 pm
Mrs. Walker (On leave, not returning until January)
Schedule Change Information
Counselors are currently working on schedules and will continue to work on schedule changes throughout the first two weeks of school. Schedule changes will be completed in the order received in the Google Form. Please note counselors are not accepting schedule change requests via email.
All schedule change requests (missing a class period, wrong academic level, missing an academic class (math, English, science, and/or social studies), OJT, Varsity or JV Sports Class, Dual Enrollment, Senior Free Period (Seniors Only), AP Study Hall and/or Off-Campus or On-campus virtual course) must be submitted through the following link:
25-26 Schedule Change Request Form
The schedule change request link will open on Friday, August 8th at 8 a.m. and close on Friday, August 15th at 3 pm.
Schedule change requests will be reviewed but are not guaranteed.
Check your schedule in Skyward on August 8th before you submit a schedule change request because changes are being made to schedules daily.
FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL
On Monday, August 11th, if you are missing a class period, please report to Student Services to meet with your counselor during the period of your missing class.
On August 12th and 13th, if there is an issue with your schedule such as the wrong academic level, missing an academic class (math, English, science, and/or social studies), OJT, Varsity or JV Sports Class, Dual Enrollment, and/or Off-Campus or On-campus virtual course please report to the Student Services Office to meet with your counselor during the period of conflict.
If your conflict is not resolved by August 14th at the start of the school day, please meet with your individual counselor in Student Services during the period of conflict. The opportunity to book an appointment through Bookings with your counselor during the school day will be available beginning Monday, August 20th.
Please note: NOT ALL course requests can be granted, but all will be reviewed.
To help expedite course changes, we are asking that you only complete the form once. Completing the form multiple times will cause a delay in processing your request.

Modified Schedule Change Information:
This form is for any off-campus requests only.
WINTER SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL POLICY REGARDING STUDENTS WITH MODIFIED SCHEDULES. This form must be completed for any off campus requests (OJT, AP/IB Study Hall, Dual Enrollment, Virtual at Home).
In order to have the privilege of a modified schedule, students must adhere to the following:

Have no more than (5) unexcused absences during a 9-week period.

Maintain a minimum of a 2.0 unweighted GPA.

Must have transportation that allows them to arrive late or leave early and MAY NOT transport other students.

Must check-out through attendance and show appropriate ID with class periods that are abbreviated.

Must have schedules with consecutive periods and no gaps.

Must have provided an electronically signed parental consent to have an abbreviated schedule.

Must not be on campus during the school day during the periods they do not have a class.

Must remain enrolled in the virtual or DE course.

SENIORS who meet the requirements above may opt to have one SENIOR FREE PERIOD off at the beginning or end of the day per semester. Seniors must be on track to graduate (met both state testing requirements, not behind in credits and have at least 19 credits).
Students encountered on campus without administrative consent will be considered in violation of these understandings and will be subject to disciplinary actions.
